Summary of Position
Responsible for sales activities that include: cultivating new business through specific programs such as program underwriting, pledge underwriting, special events underwriting and instructional television special programs underwriting. Generates underwriting to meet approved goals. Educates prospective clients on public television and its value.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Articulates and executes strategies for maintaining and growing Blue Ridge PBS underwriting revenue
- Works in concert with VP-Advancement and Corporate Support Manager
- Organizes and solicits underwriting sales
- Travels as required within the Blue Ridge PBS coverage area
- Maintains current and accurate files of all solicited businesses, reviewing, revising, and updating as necessary
- Develops and maintains a list of potential underwriters and major donors
- Confers with Programming to develop a timetable for program avails
- Handles all correspondence and calls with clients, including follow-up thank you letters
- Provides adequate instructions and required contracts to staff involved with the clients
- Actively assists, as assigned, in other fund-raising activities
- Performs other duties as assigned by the VP-Advancement and the President & CEO
Physical Demands
Extensive travel in the Blue Ridge PBS viewing area. Weekend and evening hours could be required. May be required to occasionally work beyond a normal forty-hour week.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent and two years sales or media experience preferred. Valid driver's license required. Excellent organizational, verbal and written communications skills. Must be tactful, diplomatic and assertive in nature. Ability to demonstrate judgment and discretion in dealing with sensitive information and to function independently within a team-oriented atmosphere.
