Entries are judged on originality, creative expression, storytelling ability and integration of text and illustrations.
First Place First place winners are:
  • "I Love Wheels" by Kevin Painchaud from Bedford, Va., at the kindergarten level
  • "Woodchuckie" by Brendan Killeen from Salem, Va., at the first grade level
  • "When I Dream" by Kathryn Painchaud from Bedford, Va., at the second grade level
  • "Tessa's Borneo Adventures" by Tessa Yarbrough from Blue Ridge, Va., at the third grade level

Two of the winning entries came from Bedford Primary School students in Bedford, Va. Other schools represented among the winners are Mason's Cove Elementary School in Salem, Va. and Garden City Elementary School in Roanoke, Va. A number of winners are also homeschooled.
